The US House Committee on Education and Labor was highly critical of the administration's new H-2B interim final rule. The Committee complained that the new rule reduces oversight of the H-2B aplpication process increasing the likelihood that fraudulent or otherwise non-meritorious requests for foreign guest workers will be apprived over qualified U.S. workers.
"With our nation facing an unemployment epidemic, it's unconscionable that the Bush adminstration is still working overtime to slash worker protections and put more American jobs at risk," said Representative George Miller (D-CA), Chairman of the Committee. Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) added, "Again we find the administration pushing midnight regulations to slash protections for both U.S. and foreign workers."
