Every year, to kick off the holiday season, MIRA hosts a luncheon at the State House for newly sworn-in U.S citizens and other immigrants and refugees. Elected officials and MIRA members join us to celebrate our Commonwealth’s rich diversity, share personal stories, make new connections, and hear from inspirational speakers.
Our program this year will include state Senator Linda Dorcena Forry (our emcee), Attorney General Maura Healey, state Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders, Emerson College President Lee Pelton, and Democratic Chairman Tom Perez, whose family is funding a new prize for young immigrant leaders in memory of his niece, Analisa Smith-Perez. We know you will share our enthusiasm for the dynamic activist we have chosen as the inaugural honoree.
Our program will also feature Sister Marie-Judith Dupuy, of the Diocese of Worcester Haitian Apostolate, an impassioned advocate for the 12,000+ Massachusetts residents covered by Temporary Protected Status, and Paola Sánchez, a “Dreamer,” mom, MassBay Community College student, and emerging activist.
Space is filling up fast; RSVP today to reserve a spot (NOTE: MIRA Members get priority).
We also gratefully accept donations to fund the event and MIRA’s work to advance immigrant rights and integration.
