Maria joined MIRA in September 2020. She was born in Mexico City, Mexico and raised in Houston, TX. Maria graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University obtaining a dual Bachelors in Philosophy and Electronic Media Communications and a minor in English. After graduation, Maria was selected as a Lee Herron Scholar to continue her post-graduate studies on South East Asian History in Vietnam and Cambodia. Prior to serving MIRA, Maria worked as an English teacher in South Korea where she taught English, Journalism, and Debate to middle school and high school students in rural communities. She then worked as a Political and Legal Affairs intern for the Embassy of Mexico for the Deputy Chief of Mission. During her free time, Maria enjoys skateboarding at Boston Commons with her Pomeranian. She hopes to devote her early career after graduate school working for the Department of State, specifically in consular and diplomatic affairs focusing on human rights and public interest issues.
