Boston, MA – In response to the ruling by the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia striking down the Title 42 policy, Elizabeth Sweet, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition issued the following statement:
“We welcome the ruling from the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia striking down the racist, inhumane Title 42 policy. Since its implementation in 2020, Title 42 has prevented more than one million individuals from applying for asylum in the U.S. Title 42 has unjustly targeted individuals from countries like Haiti and Venezuela, who have sought to escape the violence and oppression present in their home countries. Moving forward, we urge the Biden Administration to allow all those seeking refuge, including those previously turned away by this mistaken policy, to apply for asylum.”
