On September 30, the Biden Administration released its final rule severely limiting access to the asylum process. This new rule is even more restrictive than the interim rule that had been published in June. The new rule would essentially require all asylum seekers to use the flawed CBP One app to make an appointment at a port-of-entry. The app is cumbersome and available in limited languages, making it inaccessible to many. CBP also limits appointments to only 1,450 per day, far too few to manage the thousands of families waiting in camps on the Mexican side of the border. While waiting, these individuals and families have little to no protection against violent criminals seeking to pray on them. MIRA strongly urges the Biden Administration to rescind this policy and give those in need a fighting chance at safety.
