Dear papa,
I want to first thank you for being my first hero.
The person who kept our family safe, the person who worked long hours to keep food in our bellies and the person that we always look forward to spending quality time with.
I see you, I love you
Dear daddy,
I want to thank you for being patient with me
Even when I was stubborn or we were at odds, I never forgot the lessons you taught me. I never forgot how much faith you had in me or the potential you saw in me.
I see you, I respect you
Dear Baba,
I know you are not always allowed to be vulnerable but I see your scars, I’ve witnessed your sacrifices and I wouldn’t be who I am without realizing it takes true strength to grow and evolve.
I see you, I hope to be like you
To all our immigrant fathers across the country, many who are not fortunate enough to to spend time with their loved ones due to detention, visa restrictions, travel bans or workplace exploitation, you are not forgotten! Thank you for all your strong contributions, your hard labor and commitment to building legacies.
This Father’s Day, whether you have the privilege of celebrating with your immigrant father, have an estranged relationship, or are still healing from loss or heartbreak, we hope you find some peace today. Please know that the MIRA Coalition will never stop advocating for and celebrating YOU. Happy Father’s Day!
