Immigrants’ Day at the State House
Every spring for 23 years, MIRA has brought hundreds (and as many as 1,500) immigrants, refugees and allies to the State House for a major day of advocacy. We come together in the Great Hall for a speaking program in which elected officials share the podium with immigrants and refugees, and then we fan out across the State House to meet with legislators and staff.
Our latest Immigrants’ Day at the State House was on March 1, 2019. Top on our agenda was the Safe Communities Act. We also advocated for legislation to make driver’s licenses available to ALL qualified drivers in our Commonwealth, to ensure that ALL kids have the health care coverage they need, and to extend in-state tuition to all Mass. high school graduates. And as always, we stressed the importance of key investments in immigrant integration, especially English classes for adults and specialized job training.
Immigrants’ Day 2020 is scheduled for May 7, 2020. We will post more information and a registration link as the date gets closer. In the meantime, we encourage you to check out our IDSH 2019 photo album and watch video highlights from our 2019 program:
