Sara Ellen Mahoney

Sara Ellen Mahoney is a Senior Staff Attorney with the Massachusetts Access to Counsel Initiative (MACI), advancing access to high-quality immigration representation across Massachusetts. She previously worked at the Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts, providing direct representation and pro se assistance, focusing on humanitarian relief and removal defense work.
Prior to that, Sara was a Senior Staff Attorney and Program Manager at the American Bar Association’s Immigration Justice Project (IJP) in San Diego, overseeing the National Qualified Representatives Program and representing clients in complex detained and non-detained removal defense cases. She also contributed to the launch of the Family Group Legal Orientation and Immigration Court Helpdesk at the San Diego Immigration Court, expanding access to legal guidance for pro se litigants.
Sara began her career as a law clerk at the New York City Immigration Court through the DOJ Honors Program and holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she earned a certificate in Refugee, Migration, and Humanitarian Emergencies.
