Sarang Sekhavat

Political Director

Sarang Sekhavat (he/him) joined MIRA in 2008 and currently serves as Political Director.  Prior to joining MIRA, Sarang was an immigrant rights advocate in New York City where he designed a legal training program for the Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans and served as the Interim-Director for the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee’s New York Office.  Sarang received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2005, his M.A. in International Relations from Boston University in 2004, and his B.A. from Tufts in 1998.  As Federal Policy Director, Mr. Sekhavat provides analysis and advocacy on federal legislation and proposed regulations, acts as a liaison between local community organizations and component agencies of the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice, conducts educational sessions for community members and legal trainings for non-profit staff seeking Board of Immigration Appeals accreditation, and provides legal oversight for MIRA direct legal services program.
