Boston, MA – In response to the Biden Administration’s move to expand Title 42 restrictions to Venezuelan migrants, Elizabeth Sweet, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition issued the following statement:
“We are deeply disappointed by the Biden administration’s decision to expand the racist, pandemic-era Title 42 policy, preventing the vast majority of Venezuelan migrants from applying for asylum in the United States. While the Biden administration’s decision to accept a small number of Venezuelan migrants who arrive at our airports is a good step, it conveys an inconsistent message on how dedicated the Biden administration is to really aiding Venezuelan migrants fleeing violence and persecution.
“We firmly believe that the Biden administration should waste no time in ending Title 42, as the administration aimed to do earlier this year, so that all migrants who need our protection and who seek asylum may safely do so.”
