STATEMENT: MIRA Coalition Condemns White Supremacy Rally in Woburn

August 28, 2023

Boston, MA – On Saturday, August 26, a neo-Nazi white supremacist hate group, National
Socialist Club 131 (NCS-131), rallied against recent international arrivals housed by the state at a hotel in Woburn. In response, Elizabeth Sweet, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition, issued the following statement.

“White supremacy has absolutely no place in Massachusetts, or anywhere in America. What we witnessed Saturday in Woburn was a hateful attempt to terrorize international arrivals who are trying to create a better life after fleeing political violence and harsh economic conditions in their home countries.

“Unfortunately, the incident is part of a broader trend of troubling incidents in areas including Boston and Kingston, where hate groups have tried to intimidate immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQ+ community and members of the Jewish community.

“We will continue to partner with fellow advocacy organizations, as well as state and local officials, to ensure that immigrants and all victims of white supremacy feel welcome and safe in Massachusetts.”
