Established in 2011, the New American Integration Program (NAIP) is a partnership between MIRA and English for New Bostonians aimed at increasing community organizations’ capacity to support immigrant integration across our Commonwealth.
Up to 30 AmeriCorps members serve nearly 5,000 immigrants and refugees from over 106 different countries every year. Members are placed at immigrant- and refugee-serving organizations across the Commonwealth, serving residents of Greater Boston, Lynn, MetroWest, Central Massachusetts, New Bedford, and the Merrimack Valley.
Members commit to a full-time, full- or half-year service position while receiving a modest living allowance, health benefits, training, and an educational award at completion of service.
NAIP AmeriCorps Members assist immigrants and refugees gain economic stability and more fully participate in our society through learning English, applying for citizenship, job readiness training, and accessing community services. Through high quality training and experience, NAIP AmeriCorps members, many of whom are from immigrant and refugee communities themselves, become skilled and passionate service providers, educators, interpreters and leaders.
In 2018–2019, our 28 NAIP members served 3,859 clients: teaching English, helping immigrants and refugees find jobs, and submitting 1,847 citizenship applications. Our 2019–2020 cohort includes 24 AmeriCorps members serving at nonprofits across Massachusetts, including three at MIRA.
