  • Last week, Representative Sylvia Garcia re-introduced the Dream and Promise Act. This bill would provide a pathway to US citizenship for most DACA recipients, other DREAMers, and those on Temporary Protected Status or Deferred Enforced Departure.
  • On March 5, mayors from Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York testified before the House Oversight Committee in a hearing about “sanctuary cities.” While congressional Republicans saw this as a chance to put Democratic mayors on the hot seat, leaders of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) welcomed the chance for pro-immigrant mayors to outline their communities’ vision for true public safety: places where people from all backgrounds can thrive, without intimidation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).   • Daily Free Press: Boston City Council passes resolutions supporting immigrant rights, extends Ramadan greetings
  • On Monday, organizations and individuals from Boston filed suit against the Trump Administration in an effort to protect Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians and Venezuelans. Haitian-Americans United, the Venezuelan Association of MA, and Undocublack, represented by Lawyers for Civil Rights, argue that the administration’s attacks on these programs are in violation of federal law and are asking the court to block these decisions from DHS. 
  • The Haitian Bridge Alliance joined plaintiffs from around the country in suing the Trump Administration to block the government’s efforts to cut off categorical humanitarian parole programs, including CHNV, Uniting for Ukraine, and Operation Allies Welcome. The suit, filed in federal court on Friday, accuses that administration of violating federal not only in ending these programs, but also in blocking any beneficiaries from accessing other forms of relief.   • The Supreme Court denied the administration’s attempt to freeze USAID funding – good, but a very close call 5-4 on a decision that would not only affect vulnerable people all over the world and non-profit organizations, but would restructure our entire government by toppling the balance of power in favor of the President, undermining the ability of other branches of government to regulate his actions. And it isn’t over yet.
  • It’s not just Mayor Wu – legislators across the state, like Gloucester’s Mayor Greg Verga are holding community meetings, listening to and supporting their constituents. They are showing up, standing out and protecting their constituents.
