 Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC-Q)

Quincy, Mon & Wed, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM; Tues, Thurs, & Fri, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; some flexibility.

The Quincy NAIP AmeriCorps member at BCNC will be responsible for providing 1) educational and career advising to beginner ESOL students, 2) ESOL classes integrated with job readiness and life skills, and 3) citizenship instruction to immigrants eligible for U.S. naturalization.

Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and/or Cantonese is required.

Immigrants’ Assistance Center (IAC)

New Bedford, M-F 8:30 – 4:30 and classroom time, if it occurs outside of these hours.

The member will help support the IAC’s program offering ESOL, Citizenship and Workplace Readiness classes. The IAC is launching virtual classes in 2021-2022 and the Member will help promote the program, recruit, register and support students online.

Bilingual in either Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole or Spanish. Fluent preferred but conversational in either of the languages is required.

Jewish Vocational Services (JVS)

Boston, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

The AmeriCorps member will collaborate with staff to address refugee, asylee, and immigrant participants’ barriers to employment with the goal of creating opportunities for individuals to achieve economic self-sufficiency and growth. Responsibilities may include client outreach and enrollment, career coaching, case management to reduce employment barriers, and/or vocational skills or ESOL programs through one-on-one and group instruction.

Language skills in Spanish, Haitian Creole, French, and/or Arabic preferred, but not required.

 

Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA)

Boston, M-F 9:30-5:30 with some flexibility

MIRA will host two NAIP members to assist clients on their path to citizenship from beginning to end, screening them for eligibility, completing applications, answering questions, and staying in touch until they become citizens. Members will also provide referrals to the general public, collaborate on personal projects that contribute to the Citizenship Program, and help with the planning and logistics as necessary.

Member 1: Native Spanish required
Member 2: Working proficiency in a second language (Portuguese, Spanish, Haitian Creole) strongly preferred

Maverick Landing Community Services (MLCS)

East Boston, Mon – Fri from 10 to 6pm or 9am to 5pm with some flexibility.

The NAIP member will focus on job readiness and/or economic empowerment, helping East Boston residents with resume building and overall job readiness. The member will also help residents apply for tax payer IDs and other services to address housing, food insecurity and other needs through one-on-one education and relationship-building.

Spanish fluency required

Mujeres Unidas Avanzando (MUA)

Boston/Dorchester, Ideally 9 am – 5 pm, Monday-Friday, with some flexibility (e.g. may be able to serve 1-2 nights in exchange for a Friday off).

The member will teach two English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes for 20 hours/week, including preparation time. The remaining time will be spent on a special project (e.g. developing a newsletter or class curriculum), teaching small ESOL classes for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) program, and outreach and marketing via social media.

Spanish fluency highly preferred

Neighborhood of Affordable Housing (NOAH)

East Boston, typically 9:00am-5:00pm (normal business hours), however the weekly schedule of the member may change to fit the needs of ESOL programming.

The Neighborhood of Affordable Housing is seeking a NAIP AmeriCorps member to help us increase our capacity to teach ESOL classes to students and support the Citizenship class.

St. Mark’s Community Education Programs (SMCEP)

Boston/Dorchester, schedule is flexible but may be Monday 12-8, Tuesday/Thursday 10 – 8, Wednesday 10 – 8 , Friday 10 – 4

Member will coordinate three programs- ESOL/Work Readiness, weekday mornings Citizenship class and Pathways to Citizenship. Member wil recruit and train volunteers, develop curricula, provide instruction and assist in student recruitment, retention and evaluation.

Fluent in any language of our target populations a plus

YMCA International Learning Center (YMCA-B)

Downtown Boston, Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00; occasional evenings as needed for onboarding volunteers; some flexibility.

The Volunteer Coordinator recruits, trains, and supports volunteer tutors and mentors to provide 1-1 customized tutoring and advising. The member will also maintain partnerships with service-learning programs at local universities, oversee service-learning students, support in ESOL and technology classes, administer standardized assessments, and facilitate student activities in a blend of remote and in person settings.

Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD)

Boston/Roxbury, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday

The NAIP member will support the Immigration Services Coordinator by providing individual assistance with citizenship applications and conducting mock interviews to help applicants prepare for their naturalization interviews. When public health restrictions are lifted, the NAIP member will also teach civics classes to help applicants prepare for their naturalization interview.

Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable, but other languages could be useful.

The Boston NAIP AmeriCorps member at BCNC will be responsible for providing 1) citizenship classes to immigrants eligible for U.S. naturalization, 2) educational and career advising to beginner to intermediate ESOL students, and 3) ESOL classes integrated with job readiness and life skills.

Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, Spanish, French, Vietnamese, and/or Portuguese preferred.

English at Large (EAL)

Woburn, Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM with some evening hours.

With the support of EAL staff and volunteers, the AmeriCorps Member will manage program enrollment and facilitation of instructional group programs and all Career Access Lab (CAL) events. The Member will screen participants into the program through individual career assessments, lead two sessions of the 15-week Career Group Program, which includes the scheduling of two resume review and two mock interview events as well as one networking event for all CAL learners and community volunteers.

A car is required for access to site and related local travel. High level of English proficiency required.

Immigrant Family Services Institute (IFSI)

Boston/Mattapan, Monday-Friday: 10:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The member will provide support in teaching and developing tools for English classes, providing guidance to immigrants looking for work opportunities, and helping to build a database of resources for families in need of services.

Immigrant & Refugee Health Center (IRHC)

Boston/South End, Monday – Friday 9-5 (flexibility TBD with supervisor)

The IRHC at Boston Medical Center will host two NAIP members to serve in two distinct roles:

  1. The Citizenship and Immigration Rights Navigator (CAIRN) will connect Boston Medical Center patients with relevant immigration legal and citizenship resources. In addition, the NAIP member serving in this position will coordinate several projects, including our immigration legal clinic, civil surgeon appointments and our Medical-Legal Partnership for Immigrants (MLPI).
  2. The Career Coach will provide direct services to immigrant and refugee patients at Boston Medical Center. Services will include job readiness training, individualized career/employment navigation and job search support. In addition, the Career Coach will have opportunities to co-lead and/or “own” special projects including those related to digital literacy, social media, community engagement and career communications.

Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole or French is preferred but not required.

Jewish Family Services of Metrowest (JFS-MW)

Framingham, M-F, 8:30-4:30

The NAIP member will be primarily responsible for helping clients apply for citizenship, as well as recruiting and managing volunteers to tutor in ESOL and civics as needed. They will be highly involved in supporting immigrant and first-generation college students, refugees and asylees, and JFS’s programming with immigrant families at Framingham Public Schools.

Spanish and/or Portuguese fluency or high proficiency strongly preferred

Jewish Family Services of Western Massachusetts (JFS-WM)

Springfield, Monday 9-6, Tuesday – Thursday 9-5, and Friday 9-4

The Youth and Adult Learning Associate will teach newly arrived refugees basic English in order to communicate at work and in the community. The member will also support community volunteers to teach ESL 1-1, to work on digital literacy skills, to train newcomers on pre-employment skills, and to ensure in-person and remote ESL and pre-employment trainings go smoothly.

French, Nepali, Swahili, Arabic, Russian or Farsi preferred, but not required.

The Literacy Center (TLC)

Attleboro, M-F 9am-5pm; schedule can be flexible within reason (8am-4pm, or 10am-6pm)

The AmeriCorps member at TLC will teach weekly conversation classes, provide one-to-one career counseling, and support overall program development for TLC’s 25-hour per week English Language Immersion Program. Outside of the Immersion Program, the member will teach an additional English conversation class, hold workforce development office hours and workshops, and offer information sessions on the US citizenship process.

Advanced English speaking/reading/writing required; additional languages a plus

Project Citizenship (PC)

Boston, M-F 9-5PM, some nights and weekends

The Service member will support the Program Coordinators with organizing citizenship workshops and outreach, screening and scheduling clients for appointments, assisting with legal follow up, and supporting clients through their citizenship oaths. Members may also provide support in volunteer management, marketing and communications, and interpretation.

Somerville Community Corporation (SCC)

Somerville, Monday-Friday, 9-5 or 10-6, plus occasional evening meetings or workshops. Schedule can be adjusted to meet member’s specific needs.

The member will integrate career coaching and soft skills/job readiness training with ESL and digital literacy to support job seekers in one-on-one sessions and group workshops. The member will support community residents in their efforts to access good jobs that provide a family-sustaining wage, career growth, and economic resiliency, while at the same time providing employers with qualified, local job candidates.

Preference will be given to applicants who are fluent in Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Nepali or Tigrinya

The Right to Immigration Institute (TRII)

Waltham, usually M-F 9-5 but we can be very flexible

The member will assist clients on their path to citizenship through eligibility screening, completing applications, and preparing for interviews. The member will also provide training and outreach to underrepresented communities, students and other volunteers who are interested in learning more about naturalization and other immigration topics. As a relatively new organization, TRII’s NAIP member will also have the opportunity to help guide and set the direction for future growth of the organization.
