BOSTON, MA – In response to the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to expand federal immigration authorities’ ability to detain refugees, Elizabeth Sweet, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition, issued the following statement:
“This latest policy is a blatant, discriminatory attack on individuals who are legally present in this country, all of whom have already gone through extensive vetting. President Trump continues to fear-monger under the guise of keeping America safe by attacking individuals who have fled danger and instability to create better lives in the United States. Policies like this hurt American families, the economy, and continue to sow disorder and turmoil in our society.”
