“The deeply troubling conditions the people of Haiti are currently experiencing, from intense political violence, to minimal access to healthcare and fresh water, makes the Department of Homeland Security’s extension and redesignation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti the only ethical solution,” said Elizabeth Sweet, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition. “Over the next two months, the MIRA Coalition will work closely with federal, state, and local allies to ensure eligible Haitians in Massachusetts have the ability to apply or reapply for TPS, work authorization, and other critical programs. At the same time, we plan to raise awareness around the serious risks of notario fraud, educating families on the importance of recognizing and only working with legal service providers, not predatory individuals seeking to financially abuse them.”
