BOSTON, MA – In response to the tragic and lethal shooting in Minneapolis, Elizabeth Sweet, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition, issued the following statement:
“There is simply no reason for ICE agents to be on the streets of our communities doing the job of local law enforcement or deploying militaristic tactics which only make America less safe. MIRA has repeatedly called on this administration to remove ICE agents from our neighborhoods and today’s tragedy is just the latest avoidable result of this bad policy. The presence of ICE agents do not make our neighborhoods or communities safer, as proven by the countless acts of violence on display the last year and by this senseless tragedy. We are deeply saddened for the loved ones of the victim and again call for the immediate removal of ICE agents from our communities across the country.”
