What an amazing week!
On Tuesday MIRA hosted our first Immigrants’ Rights Conference. The event featured speakers and workshops, and was a wonderful opportunity for advocates to come together in solidarity and celebration; to learn and connect; to prepare for advocacy at the State House the following day. Thank you to all who participated, from the amazing speakers and presenters to the participants to the staff who worked so hard to make this event such a success. On Wednesday MIRA hosted our 29th annual Immigrants’ Day at the State House, bringing together more than 500 people from all walks of life to celebrate the importance of immigrants in our Commonwealth and to demand that legislators remain accountable to their constituents and Protect Our Immigrant Communities. Before the event a prayer gathering was hosted by [ ], attended by 150 attendees. We were treated to amazing performances by the BMBCC Choir, [dancers], and Margo Martins playing guitar. These were followed by an amazing lineup of inspiring speakers, including community leaders, political representatives, and members of the community willing to bravely share their stories. Then advocates gathered to attend meetings with different legislators, sharing information about and showing their support of the legislative priorities included in the Protecting Our Immigrant Communities campaign. Thank you to all who attended, all who spoke and performed. Also an enormous thank you to the coalition members and MIRA staff who spent long hours in the weeks prior organizing, planning, and collaborating around these priorities, for a smooth- running and extraordinarily powerful event.
