Challenges and Opportunities for Immigrant Parent-Focused Programming

In the fall of 2020, MIRA Coalition met with 37 program staff in early education, K-12, and adult education settings to learn about family and parent programming in immigrant-rich communities. These conversations highlighted the many barriers and challenges in participation, such as the lack of culturally and linguistically appropriate services and the digital divide. They also brought to light promising practices and creative solutions to increase immigrant parent engagement in the time of COVID-19. In this report, we share common themes from these conversations and highlight some initial recommendations on ways to deepen and expand family engagement work with immigrant communities.
